So, I suppose I should answer that question. Why do I support CP80? Here are three big reasons: freedom from speech and safety. There are more issues that concern me, but these are the two I'll write about for now.
Freedom from speech
I'm not afraid to come out and say that pornography is morally wrong. I know that's taboo to say in a court of law, but here on my site I'll say it. Now, I'm not going to impose my morals upon others. However, I will not let others impose their immorality upon me or my family under the banner of free speech. I'll give them their freedom of speech, but give me my freedom from speech.
That's why I love CP80. It effectively allows my family to uphold our morals by shutting off the adult port. If another adult chooses to view pornography in the corners of his or her own home, they still have that choice. CP80 is the first initiative I've seen that protects both sides of the issue.
Children & Safety
We've all seen the Dateline "To Catch A Predator" special. We've watched as online predators are lured into a home expecting to meet a child. And we've watched their shock when they find reporters instead of minors. I used to have a false sense of security to think that somehow that my family was safe from that. Just recently, a porn-related incident happened to two children in my neighborhood. It was at a park two blocks away from my house. my daughter had been playing at the very same park just the day before.
It's sad that it takes a tragedy to move someone to action, but this woke me up. The truth is that there are predators out there, and they're trying to lure our children. Internet porn is one of the tools they use to desensitize and prey on them. I can't just sit back and wait until it happens to one of my friends or familiy. CP80 is a huge way to help curb online predators from reaching children.
